It's important to choose a photographer that is not only a qualified professional, but who will work with you to meet your specific desires for the session. Be sure to read references from previous clients to ensure there are no red flags.
Browse their previous work and make sure it matches the style you want. Ask if they are experienced photographing children, babies, and/or pets, if necessary. Make sure to ask if the photographer has professional insurance, especially if the session will be outdoors.
Meet or speak with the photographer in person prior to booking so you can get a sense of whether you will feel comfortable working with them. It's crucial to feel confident in front of the camera, and the right photographer will know how to put you at ease.
What to ask potential photographers:
I provide custom pricing based on your photo session needs and the editing required to meet your desired outcome. Every session is unique, but packages start at $400. I pride myself on offering a complimentary consulting session to discuss your needs and provide a quote.
Absolutely not! I am experienced at photographing large groups. During our consulting session, I'll share what to keep in mind to ensure successful group photos.
FREE, NO RISK CONSULTATION: This planning session allows for an enjoyable, stress-free photography day and ensures portraits meet your expectations. During this meeting, we will discuss your goals (including any specific photo styles or poses you have in mind), review potential locations, consider outfit choices, and decide on the best process for photo selection and delivery
LOCATION SCOUTING: Know you want to showcase Colorado's beauty in your photos, but don't know how? I have traveled extensively throughout the state and will guide you in selecting locations that will best fit your goals. I'm not afraid of a short hike to get you to the goal destination!
PORTRAIT REVIEW: I will review your initial proofs and talk you through any additional editing and photo sizes you desire.
PROFESSIONAL EDITING: Includes removing background distractions, touch up of facial blemishes/scars, changes in sizing or images, cropping, etc.
Photo shoots typically require 1 to 3 hours depending on the size of the group, number of locations, and amount of outfit changes. I provide a timeline following our consultation.
In short, outfits should not be a distraction. Portraits turn out best when outfits have solid colors or muted patterns allowing the photo's focus to be on the face(s), rather than drawing attention to clothing. For group portraits, I recommend everyone wear solid colors and/or muted patterns in the same color palette. For individual portraits, chose solid colors and/or muted patterns that complement your skin tone and that you feel comfortable in.
Make sure clothes are clean and ready to go. Little ones (and maybe Dads) might want to take a nap beforehand. Have a snack before everyone is in their clean clothes. Make sure you have good directions to the portrait location. Have my cell phone number handy in case you run into any issues (303.514.6340). Take a deep breath and relax. We will have fun, I promise!
